About

An interdisciplinary social scientist

I work on environmental policy, socioecological resilience, and climate adaptation, using mixed and participatory action research methods.

My work begins from a simple observation: the hardest problems in climate adaptation are rarely technical. They are questions of who decides, who benefits, who is heard, and what a community is willing to change.

Much of what I do is science and policy communication, translating research into evidence that municipalities, agencies, and communities can act on. I've spent the past years working through these questions with farmers, municipalities, and local communities: in living labs from Sligo to Samsun, across around 30 case studies in Europe and beyond, and in stakeholder workshops in more than 15 European cities.

I care about research that leaves the people and ecosystems it studies better off. And I'm passionate about postgrowth: the idea that societies can secure wellbeing within ecological limits, organising economies around sufficiency, care, and repair rather than endless expansion. It runs through much of my research.

I am currently based in Amsterdam. More on my background and projects in Research →
